Chat
The Chat tab is your AI-powered question interface. Ask anything about your uploaded documents and get a cited, grounded answer — the AI only draws from your knowledge base, not the open internet.
Starting a Conversation
- Go to Knowledge → Chat
- Optionally select a collection from the dropdown to scope the search
- Type your question in the input at the bottom
- Press Send — the AI returns an answer with cited document sources
Suggested prompts appear on the empty state to get you started:
- "What are the key topics across all my documents?"
- "Summarise the most recent upload"
- "What entities are most frequently mentioned?"
- "How do the concepts in my docs relate to each other?"
Retrieval Modes
Select the retrieval strategy at the top of the panel:
| Mode | Best for |
|---|---|
| Hybrid | Most questions — combines vector search and keyword matching |
| Local | Conceptual or semantic questions ("what does the policy say about X?") |
| Global | Relationship and entity questions ("how are these two companies connected?") |
| Naive | Exact term or phrase lookups |
Hybrid is the default and works well in most cases.
Chat History
Past conversations appear in the left panel under your collection selector. Click any previous conversation to continue it or review past answers.
Scoping to a Collection
If you have multiple collections (e.g. "Legal Docs", "Product Specs"), select the relevant one before asking to keep answers focused. Leave it on All to search across your entire knowledge base.
